Volunteering

Standard

Well, I did it! I signed up to volunteer at the local children’s hospital.

I have no idea whether they’ll actually let me volunteer, but at least I’ve done something toward filling my time and contributing to society. Hopefully they have a spot for me.

  1. Ha ha I love the cartoon ๐Ÿ™‚ you always manage to find good ones.
Seriously, wow that’s a really brave step. I know it’s hard to take the plunge for something like that. I imagine you’ll be really good at that because you’re very thoughtful and empathic and your studies will help you for it too. I really hope they take you on xxx

  2. I hope you find you can volunteer. Where ever you volunteer, you will gain huge benefits from it. As well as feeling some sense of giving back and enjoying it, you will gain confidence. It is something for your CV too.

One place I have volunteered at, I have done for 2 years and 4 months now. It’s a volunteer job with different varieties to it. Mostly, I create crafts from recycled items, so there is a display for people who use the scrap store to give them ideas to show what they can make with the children they look after. I also help to keep the scrap store tidy, or re-stock. But I have also done a little admin work.
At the moment, I am helping with some re-organising, after they had a major overhaul with their building. This will take a couple of months to get back to some order, but I am loving helping with this too.
This was my first volunteer work, which brought me out of my shell and I absolutely love it.

Another, which I not long left, I did for just over a year, which was at a shop. The money raised at this shop was for a hospice. I liked what I did, but I gave this up after wanting to try out a new volunteer role, which if I want to go down that route of work, then the skills will be good for my CV and that is working in mental health. It’s early days, but it feels right.

    Enjoy your volunteer work. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. i’m so proud and jealous of you at the same time! i’ve been trying to volunteer for about a year and keep chickening out. when i lived in dc, i gave platelets at the children’s hospital every other week but where i live now, there is only one central blood bank and they are horrible at platelets. it’s about an hour drive and they can never find my vein and then blame me. anyway, congrats! i hope you really enjoy yourself. there’s no high like helping others!
