At the ER

Standard

The intervention was hard, my dad had many obhections. We countered them all. We cried. He caved. I’m now at the ER with one of my sisters and my dad.

We’re waiting on the results of the blood work, x-rays, and urine test, but they said they’re going to admit him to the hospital.

I’m here probably overnight. My sister will probably leave when he gets a room. I’m glad he’s getting the treatment he needs. I’m so relieved.

      • This is when my inner asshole (OK, outer) kicks in, and I tend to point out to someone all of the fun things that happen to your body when you don’t treat your diabetes. Then I point out the even better things that happen when you don’t treat diabetic ulcers and wounds. My dad’s a doctor, I ran his office for years, and I’ve seen and SMELLED more necrotic and gangrenous tissue than I’d ever like to remember. And I had to change someone’s dressing right after they had their foot amputated for letting an ulcer fester and rot. And I’m from a small, super religious farming town. Faith didn’t heal any of them. So excellent of you to finally get him to go to the hospital. Hopefully it’s not too late for his leg. (Also sorry, graphic, I have major issues with diabetics that don’t take care of themselves. It doesn’t just go away, people!) I’m going back to bed now.

  1. It’s so hard when it is your parent. They want their independence but we see they are not taking care of themselves we have to intervene. Hopefully he will get the treatment and next time something starts to happen take care of it as soon as it starts so he doesn’t end back up in the hospital again. Thinking of you.

  2. I’m so glad for you that it went well. I can’t imagine how hard that must have been on your family but sometimes that’s the only way to help someone. I admire your strength girl! So happy that your dad will get the care he needs.

  3. Hi there. I think you read my metabolic piece. It was kinda a rant. I’ve seen you before but social media skills are not great especially if people have gravatar and no recent posts. But I was able to find you via post and I’m glad I did. I love your title and site. Allison BipolarBrainaic
